Crestwood Center at Napa Valley embodies Crestwood’s commitment to providing the people we serve with mental health care that puts them on the road to recovery. All persons served at this center, regardless of their treatment focus or their specific program details, are eligible to participate in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) program. WRAP is a self-help recovery system designed to decrease negative mental health symptoms, increase personal responsibility, and improve quality of life.

At Crestwood Center at Napa Valley, we take a trauma-informed approach to care. As we seek to understand the trauma a person has experienced and the impact it has on their lives and behavior, we discover ways to help them navigate their vulnerabilities and triggers. Our trauma-informed approach helps us build rapport and trust with the people we serve, enabling us to successfully employ recovery methods that do not exacerbate or re-traumatize individuals. By implementing trauma-informed approaches, we are able to accurately facilitate an innovative recovery process for persons served that helps them experience transformational healing.

Crestwood Center at Napa Valley offers Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is an evidence-based therapeutic practice developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., at the University of Washington. DBT is designed to treat persons served with Borderline Personality Disorder and assists them in learning skills that help them regulate their emotions. By adopting emotional regulation skills, persons served are empowered to choose healthier responses to life’s situations, where in the past they may have previously responded in a self-destructive or aggressive manner.

DBT consists of individual therapy sessions that are held weekly with a therapist who follows the treatment hierarchy, reviews events from the past week, and discusses diary cards that persons served keep daily. DBT also includes core recovery classes that incorporate music and art therapy. We utilize the DBT program to work with some of our most challenging persons served that may have issues with aggressive behaviors, self-injurious behaviors, drug or alcohol abuse, and other behaviors.

In collaboration with DBT treatment, we offer Dual Recovery treatment programs featuring an on-site certified drug and alcohol counselor, and interns from Yuba College, who work at the campus to gain experience for their dual recovery certificates. We also provide group outings that help persons served explore the local region, encourage participation in our Dreamcatcher Empowerment Network program, a pre-vocational program where persons served can learn skills to prepare them for work in the community, and offer weekly 2-5-hour skills training classes that focus on emotional regulation skills, mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills, and distress tolerance skills.
