Crestwood Idylwood Care Center

At Crestwood Idylwood Care Center, we believe that individuals have the right to become experts in managing their own care. We also know that individuals are unique, whole, and interdependent with their environments. With this in mind, we understand that the people we serve can achieve maximum independence when they are full participants in managing their mental health.

At Crestwood Idylwood Care Center, wellness is achieved by ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of persons served through supportive neurobehavioral programs that treat geriatric populations and those with neurological trauma. Our primary goal is to create an environment where the people we serve can progressively move towards greater levels of physical, mental, and spiritual health by being actively involved in making choices that promote healthier and more meaningful lives. Our mission is to instill hope in the lives of persons served and give them a reason to get up in the morning.

Idylwood Care Center

Idylwood Care Center, also known as the “Courtyard at Idylwood” is a 106-bed skilled nursing facility providing services for individuals with a combination of medical and behavioral needs. Traditional skilled nursing facilities are often unable to address the complex needs of this unique population, which results in medical and psychiatric deterioration, acute hospitalizations, and negative outcomes for many. However, the Courtyard at Idylwood provides services designed to reduce the utilization of acute beds by stabilizing both behavioral and medical symptoms. We provide persons served with a break from adverse living circumstances and offer the necessary support and resources that individuals need for potential discharge to lower-levels of care. Our ultimate goal is to provide person served the highest quality of individualized care available.

The Gardens at Idylwood

The Gardens at Idylwood is a 66-bed nursing and rehabilitation building on the Idylwood Care Center campus that provides short-term rehabilitation and extended stay services.

Skilled Nursing Care

The Gardens at Idylwood offers persons served many amenities that support healthy mind management, including comfortable outdoor settings, gardening activities, and unique cooking experiences. We provide three large outdoor patios with shaded sitting, dining, and recreation areas, creating a unique opportunity for individuals to relax and commune outdoors. For persons served with a green thumb, we have constructed a wheelchair-accessible garden that features elevated planters to encourage gardening. We also provide a homelike dining room with residential kitchen equipment for the people we serve to enjoy self-prompted meal prep or structured group cooking activities led by our staff chef.

Rehabilitation Services

At the Gardens at Idlywood, we provide the following rehabilitaiton services:

  • Physical Therapy: Combined electromagnetic and mechanical modalities, specialized post joint replacement care, stroke rehabilitation, fall prevention, arthritis treatment, and more.

  • Occupational Therapy: Activities of daily living retraining, splinting, home management preparation, safety awareness instruction and energy conservation techniques.

  • Speech Therapy: Focus on communication, cognition, and swallowing issues due to stroke, head injury or disease processes.

We also offer traditional approaches to rehabilitation such as our therapeutic gym, and alternative therapeutic modalities that integrate culinary and horticulture activities with the rehabilitation needs of persons served. We believe that utilizing normal daily activities as part of rehabilitation process improves outcomes and reduces length of stay.

Special Features

Garden Activities

At Crestwood Idylwood Care Center, the produce for cooking activities is harvested by persons served and staff from Idylwood Care Center’s own vegetable gardens. We also have beautiful flower gardens and a rose garden. Persons served can relax in the gardens on their own or join structured activities lead by an occupational therapist and staff. Both of these services have been featured in the workbook, Nourish the Body and Soul, published by Action Pact Inc., 2008.

Special Recognition

Crestwood Idylwood Care Center was recognized by the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) for excellence in programming at the organization’s 2009 annual meeting. The award was given for the Idylwood Olympics, which featured persons served and staff taking on the challenge of an Olympic-style competition. Participants celebrating a love of sports and the spirit of the Olympics were integrated into the daily lives of the people who live and work in the Idylwood community. Persons served and staff became participants, not watchers, of world events and formed an even greater appreciation for Idylwood’s community and each other.

Crestwood Behavioral Health Inc. is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which provides international standards for rehabilitation organizations to follow that promotes the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services.
